My story
Hi, I’m Krisztina Rudnay-Peters, founder of Calm Canine Academy. Originally from the busy city (Budapest) of Hungary, I now live in Michigan with my husband and our two wonderfully chaotic dogs.
My dog training journey didn’t begin with a classroom or a certification — it started with desperation and a dog that had no off switch.
In 2014, I brought home my first dog. I didn’t know it then, but that decision would reshape my entire life. I trained him to become my emotional support animal, and together we did things most people wouldn’t dream of: he flew with me on airplanes, strolled through busy cafes, dined at restaurants, and explored beaches with calm, easy confidence. Everything I learned during that time didn’t come from a textbook — it came from real, daily challenges and the trial-by-fire lessons of living life with a dog by your side at all times.
A few years later, I wanted to give back. I began volunteering at local shelters, working hands-on with dogs who’d been through the wringer. Some were scared. Some were pushy. Some just needed to learn that people could be trusted again. That experience forced me to adapt, think fast, and develop tools that work in the real world — not just theory.
Then came Mack. And Mack… well, Mack changed everything.
He is sweet. And wild. And reactive. And insecure. He barks at every noise. Lunges at dogs on walks. He didn’t listen, didn’t focus, and didn’t care how many treats I had in my hand. He broke every rule, tested every method, and brought me to the edge of quitting more than once.
But I didn’t quit. I got curious. I studied, tested, refined. And slowly, session by session, Mack started to change. Not perfectly. Not overnight. But he got calmer. He focused more. He began to trust. And through him, I discovered the kind of work it really takes to raise a balanced dog in a modern world.
That’s why I built Calm Canine Academy.
This is not a place for perfect dogs. It’s a place for real dog owners, with real lives and real challenges, who want to build a better relationship with their dogs. I don’t promise magic. I promise progress. Through step-by-step routines, weekly challenges, and a supportive community, I help you turn confusion into clarity and chaos into calm.
Whether you’re starting with a new puppy or working through serious behavior issues, you belong here.
Let’s build something better — one walk, one command, one calm moment at a time.
